We would love to invite you to Ourselves: We Sing, presented by Washington Performing Arts’ Mars Urban Arts Initiative on Sunday, May 3, 2015.  The day of events will be a celebration of Washington, D.C.’s legendary poet resident, Sterling Brown.

Come to Brookland and listen to poet historian Kim Roberts and poet Brian Gilmore discuss the legacy of Sterling Brown and the influences of his work on current writers in Washington and beyond.  Following the discussion, take a unique journey with us as we host a jazz listening salon in celebration of Brown’s traditional listening salons at his historic home in Brookland.  The salon will feature a presentation by one of Sterling Brown’s students, cultural pioneer A.B. Spellman, the Freddie Dunn Trio, Capital Bop, and many more special guests.

An RSVP is required for all events.  Due to limited space, the address for the listening salon will be provided after each guest has RSVP’d.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Shay Stevens at sstevens@washingtonperformingarts.org.
